Responsibilities :
The United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin is located in M’Chigeeng First Nation, on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. The Tribal Council was formed to protect the interests and rights of our people, to foster the social and economic well being of our people, and to refine and promote good government and administration for the six member First Nations.
The tribal councils holds regular monthly meetings and, when necessary emergency meetings. An annual general assembly is held to review the year’s operations, as well as to plan for the upcoming year.
A band of Anishinabek may become a member of the tribal council if it votes in favor of joining. A band council resolution is them submitted to the Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin. It is then voted on by the chiefs in assembly.
The U.C.C.M. Board of Directors exercises overall responsibility for the delivery of policing services and programs within the U.C.C.M. Anishnaabe Police Service Area.
The U.C.C.M. Board of Directors appoints the members serving on the U.C.C.M. Police Services Commission. One member of the U.C.C.M. Board of Directors may serve as a non voting member and serve as a liaison between the Board and the Commission.
The Board also appoints individuals to serve on the U.C.C.M. Citizens Review Committee.
