** Police Seek Suspect in Serious Assault on M’Chigeeng Elder **

Investigators with the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Criminal Investigation Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect or suspects following an assault on a M’Chigeeng First Nation Elder.

On Sunday, May 11, 2014, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. a man was assaulted inside his residence on Back Street, M’Chigeeng First Nation.  The male victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack.  The victim was discovered inside his home that night by a neighbour and paramedics were called to the scene.  The man was then transported to Manitoulin Health Centre by ambulance and later flown to a Hospital in Sudbury.  The 70 year old M’Chigeeng man remains in critical, but stable condition in a Sudbury Hospital.  No one else was injured in the incident.

The assault was reported to UCCM Police on Monday, May 11, at about 6:00 a.m.  OPP Forensic Unit obtained physical evidence from the residence.  Members of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police have been actively investigating the assault and the area has been canvassed for additional information.
