UCCM Police Investigate Cyber Bullying

On the 22nd of November 2013 the United Chiefs and Councils Police Services received a report that a young person was being harassed via Facebook messaging.

As a result of that investigation the UCCM Police learned other recipients of similar messaging included students from Lake View School and Manitoulin Secondary Schools. This matter is part of an ongoing investigation and police would like to provide tips to help prevent this from happening to you or someone in your family.

  • Prevention;
  • Place computer(s) with internet access in an open, commonly used space; and
  • Never give out personal information or passwords, P.I.N. numbers etc.

Personal information includes your name, the names of friends of family, your address, phone number, school name (or team name if you play sports). Personal information also includes picture of yourself and your e-mail address.
