Two Individuals Charged Following Death of 17-Year-Old Female

On August 17, 2026, UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service received a request from Emergency Medical Services to attend a residence on Lakeshore Drive in M’Chigeeng First Nation regarding a severely injured person.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old female who was deceased. The scene was secured, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the death:

Davin WASSEGIJIG (19 years) is charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order

A 17-year-old female is charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder

The identity of the 17-year-old accused cannot be released in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both accused were held in custody pending court proceedings.

The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service Crime Unit and Uniform Officers continue to investigate with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The loss of a young person is a tragedy that has a profound impact on families, friends and the entire community.

Given the ongoing nature of this investigation, UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service will not be releasing further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the death at this time. We ask that the privacy of the victim’s family be respected.
