TWO MALES CHARGED WITH ATTEMPT TO COMMIT MURDER FOLLOWING FIREARMS INCIDENT
UCCM Officers & Specialized Units Apprehend Individuals After Confrontation in M’Chigeeng

The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service has laid multiple charges following an investigation into a firearms incident that occurred on Riverside Drive in M’Chigeeng First Nation on June 12, 2026.
On June 12, 2026, UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service officers responded to a firearms complaint at a residence on Riverside Drive after receiving reports of an armed confrontation involving several individuals. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and initiated an investigation.
The investigation determined that Bailey Laford, of M’Chigeeng First Nation, attended the residence and became involved in an altercation with individuals at the location. It is alleged that Laford subsequently returned armed with a rifle, threatened two individuals, pointed the firearm at them, and discharged the firearm in their direction. One victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by projectile fragments.
As a result of the investigation, Bailey Laford has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm (Two counts)
- Pointing a Firearm (Two counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
The investigation further revealed that the firearm involved is believed to belong to Dylan Moggy, of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. Police determined that neither accused was authorized to possess firearms and that the firearm had allegedly been stored in an unsafe manner.
As a result, Dylan Moggy has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
Both accused were located and arrested on Riverside Drive in M’Chigeeng First Nation and held for a bail hearing.
The investigation involved a coordinated response by frontline patrol officers and specialized members of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, including the Canine Unit, Community Mobilization Unit, and Crime Unit. Assistance was also provided by the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Forensic Identification Services.
The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service reminds the public that the charges have not been proven in court. All accused persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
