** Suspect arrested in residence on Mnaawnkwad Drive, M’Chigeeng FN for assault and possession of a handgun**

As a result of information obtained during an investigation into an assault, a search warrant was sought and granted for a residence located at 45 Mnaawnkwad Drive, M’Chigeeng First Nation.

On Friday, November 15th, 2024, UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service Crime Unit and Uniform Officers, OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) and OPP Canine Unit, executed the search warrant and arrested the individual sought in the assault.

This is an isolated incident and is NOT connected to any other current investigation being conducted by UCCM Police. There is no threat to members of the community.

A search of the residence revealed:

  • Loaded semi-automatic 9mm prohibited handgun
  • An imitation firearm that looks like a sub-machine gun
  • Two large quantities of what is believed to be controlled substances
  • $4,200 in Canadian currency
  • Indicia of drug trafficking (scales covered in white powder)

The accused is an adult male and is attending a bail hearing to face the following offence:

  • CC 266 Assault
  • CC 86(1) Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • CC 91(1) Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • CC 95(1) Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • CC 96(a) Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • CC 88 Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose

The name of the accused will be released once the information has been sworn to before the courts.
This remains an active investigation with the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service Crime Unit and more charges may be laid once analysis of the substances seized has been verified.
